Some Like It (a little less) Hot

Much of the country experienced record high temperatures today. While we’ve been fluctuating between low- to mid-90s, I know it has been much hotter than that for some of you.

I found myself thinking about the temperate island we visited off the coast of Seattle at the beginning of March. Vashon’s high for today was 72 degrees. The average temperature there for this time of year is listed as 78 degrees.

I tried to imagine myself in the midst of all that cool, green loveliness. It was hard… Fortunately, I have a bevy of photos from our trip to assist me in my fantasizing. You’re welcome to join me!

Moist, overgrown and incredible! From our walk around Christensen Pond…

Intoxicating blue and a breeze along the water’s edge at Fisher Pond…

Is it working? Do you feel any cooler? Maybe a degree or two?

Well… I tried!  *GRIN*

THIS is the time of year to dream about other places. Eric just got home from two weeks in the Sierras. I was so busy with chores, crafting, shipping, the garden while he was gone I didn’t hike much even though the mornings have been wonderful. My cup runnith over with TOO much to do. I need to look into a different program to work with my pictures, any suggestions? Have a good weekend xoxoxox

Hullo, Ro! Glad to hear that Eric is back home and I hope he had a truly relaxing and wonderful time — he deserves it! 🙂 I haven’t been out much either in this heat… Though I do try to get out for a little bit (at least to refill the water bins for the critters). Am hoping for a longer excursion or two this weekend… we shall see if that really happens. I’ve only ever really used Photoshop, Ro. It is pricey though and waaaay more program than I probably need on most days. Here’s a brief article I found listing other programs for the Mac that might suit your needs: http://photofocus.com/2008/02/29/alternatives-to-photoshop-twip/ I know Ezra has used the free open source software, GIMP, on occasion. I found this tutorial telling you how to use it to do the selective color effect you were asking about in my previous post: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Selective_Color/ There are also several video tutorials, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtAFDPiIvOY&feature=related Hope those links at least give you a starting place. Let me know if you have more questions! XOXO to you too and enjoy the return of your hubby and have a pleasant weekend together!

Hey, thanks! These shots did temporarily transport me to a seemingly faraway land where temperatures were in the double (not triple) digits. Glorious. It worked. I felt the relief. So, these are such great shots! Love the moss, unbelievable. That one reminds me so much of this: http://benarnow.tumblr.com/post/7811686014/sciencecenter-a-kermode-or-spirit-bear-in …minus the bear. 🙂 One of the things I love about where we have moved is all the moss. Being near the lake, and having so much tree coverage keeps the moss very happy. I lie down on it on occasion and it makes a really nice spot to stop and relax and think. Cheers…to cooler days and more moss covered forests. B

It worked? Excellent! Glad I helped to make you feel cooler. Which is difficult, BTW, because you are already so darn cool to begin with. (*insert bad pun groan here*) I had been meaning to comment on that great photo you linked to! I’m glad you feel I was able to conjure that feeling of deep, lush, greenness — minus the bear, of course. 🙂 Your description of the moss around your place sounds heavenly! I’d probably be too busy inspecting it, and photographing it, and looking for tiny arthropod inhabitants crawling around to actually lay down and kick back… ahh, but you do make that sound awfully relaxing! *GRIN*
