Layin’ Low

As I lay in bed with a sore throat, aches, pains and a nasty headache, I feel all the more grateful for the beautiful days I spent outside last week… Blech! I do NOT handle being sick well. I’m trying to be good to myself though and give my body the time it needs to rest and repair. Here’s a few pics of the local critters taking a break too… *grin*

Sorry you’re sick, take a hint from those recliners. The bunny looks so relaxed. WONDERFUL photos! xoxoxo

Thanks for the “get well” wishes, Ro. I am doing my darndest to take it all in stride. Isn’t that bunny fantastic? This is actually one of the few photos that’s not from here in the canyon. This sleepy little one was relaxing down in Orange County at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary — a really excellent place to take a walk and see some marsh and pond life. http://seaandsageaudubon.org/SJWS/sjws.htm

I’m sorry that you are not feeling well. I hope your sore throat disappears as fast as it appeared, and I hope you can leave all your aches and pains in that bed. (My wish is for your headache to be the first to go!) Photos are GREAT…love the soft soothing colors too in the first two, and love that back leg of the bun in the last one. Sweet 🙂

Aww… Miss Songbird… such kind words are greatly appreciated. Sadly, when I woke up this morning the headache was even worse than yesterday. But… I’m taking steps to fix that. Everything else seems about the same — which is good — things could have gotten worse. Guess I’ve got at least another day stuck inside though. 🙁 Glad you liked the pics… Looking through my nature photos and videos when I’m not feeling well is actually incredibly therapeutic. It’s like visiting with old friends and it gives me something to look forward to once I’m feelin’ better.

Hey Harsi, sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling well. I wish you a swift recovery! Love the photos, especially the last one, which is probably the laziest-looking rabbit I’ve ever seen 🙂 In keeping with the theme of this blog post, here is a photo of a ground squirrel I saw last week resting under the shade of a saltbush (doesn’t compare to your photos I know, but thought I’d share anyway): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_wvH8yijxHyU/TdWAhBTla6I/AAAAAAAAENc/kbmz2co2WyI/s720/squirrel.JPG Get well soon!

What are you talking about, Chris?? Doesn’t compare to my photos?!! Your photo is EXCELLENT and it definitely made me smile (much needed as I’m still feeling crappy)! I’ve seen ground and tree squirrels (and rabbits and deer) dig these shallow scrapes in the dirt to create a slightly cooler place to lay down, but I don’t have any photos this good. You’ve captured this behavior wonderfully and the way that squirrels splay their bodies out to maximize the surface area contacting the ground is fascinating (as well as comical!). Thank you for sharing this, Chris — best gift I’ve gotten today! 🙂

Great photo, Chris! (When my dog does this splaying of his hind legs we call him “frog dog.”) 🙂
